Family of Four

I love seeing trees growing healthy with plenty of space to spread their branches.

These four looked like they were enjoying a sunny summer day and a scenic view.

Night Fountain

Finally made adjustments I've been meaning to do for a long time and am happy with the painting.

View from my attic, clear night

Nights are usually really quiet in this area.  Just an occasional dog bark or train's horn in the distance.

Quick Draw at Cape Ann Plein Air Event

"Morning Clouds Lifting, Gloucester Harbor"

Cape Ann Plein Air started on a cloudy, gray morning.

Despite the weather, there were an incredible number of artists participating this year. The clouds started clearing later in the morning and the blue sky was visible by midday. Because we were allowed only 2 hours to complete a painting, I had to keep reminding myself not to chase the changing light and stick with the initial idea.

It certainly was a gorgeous location to paint.

Tufts Hill, Summer Afternoon

A view of Tufts Hill one August afternoon.
Maybe a storm in the distance will come this way and give us rain.

Plein air painting at Newton Boathouse

Today was a beautiful day to paint outside!
Painted Newton Boathouse by Charles River.

Holbein Olive Green I've recently purchased plus Sap Green worked great for today's color scheme.  I've been using Raw Sienna instead of Yellow Ochre and am liking the more balanced mix that it creates.

Plein air painting by a pond

Plein air painting by a pond on a sunny cool summer day.

But my old tripod finally broke while I was trying to attach a pochade box.  Good thing my bag was full of bungee cords and hooks!  I was able to tie the box to the easel.  Vertical palette was quite awkward, but was able to paint alright.

Now I'll have to find myself a sturdy tripod.

Lavenders

It took over four years to turn our front lawn into a flower bed of lavenders, tickseed and hydrangeas.
Now a pretty color of green, blue, yellow, white... greet me when I step out the front door in the morning or come home after a day of work.

Essex Marshland in October

Plein air painting of Essex marsh.
A bench by the city hall was a perfect vantage point to paint from.  Late afternoon sun lit everything in warm hue.
