Portland Head Light, Maine
We drove up to Maine last weekend to see more lighthouses.
Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Edward Hopper had a studio not far from here and painted this picturesque lighthouse many times.
To top off the visit, there was a food truck selling delicious Maine Lobster Roll right there in the park!

Whale Watch!
One thing I really wanted to do now that I live in Boston was to see whales with my own eyes.
The largest animals on Earth is simply too large to be housed in any aquariums, so the only way to see them is to visit them in their habitat.
I was worried that the whales might not show themselves so readily to us, but figured even just being out in the ocean and viewing Boston from the sea would be a treat enough.
It was about 1 1/2 hour cruise to whale's feeding area - Stellwagen Bank.
The waiting felt long at first, it felt like it will all end in anticipation. But a water spout was spotted, and the next thing we knew, there were whale activities all around us!
What a beautiful, exciting experience!
I'm definitely coming back out here again!!

Atlanta Artist Center's Figure Group
Earlier this month, I visited Atlanta for a week to take care of some businesses.
Since I drove down with a complete plein air set, I decided to join Atlanta Artist Center's live model session and meet up with a few artist friends.
Because there was no space in my car to transport large wet paintings, I had only 6x8" canvases. It was not easy painting a figure on a small surface!
I'm glad that I got to try out my new easel, though.
I've been looking for a travel easel as light and easy to set up as camera tripods, and found Crative Mark Feather Pro 190. This is a very sturdy and well made easel that weighs only 3.5 lbs. I was missing a place to put down brushes, so will devise a cup holder next time. Other than that, it worked quite well!

Driving to Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Last Sunday, we joined our friends for a day trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
The commercial district spans about 3or 4 blocks around North Church of Portsmouth, so it was easy to walk around. Many people were enjoying a stroll along beautiful brick buildings.
Congress Street and Market Street were lined with many restaurants and interesting shops.
We had a wonderful lunch of delicious fried clams, scallops, and haddock sitting on an over water deck at Old Ferry Landing.

Museum of Fine Arts Boston
A cold rainy Saturday is perfect for visiting museums!
I was very impressed with the enormous size of the museum. The scale is equivalent to Metropolitan Museum or National Gallery.
My objective today was to see American Impressionistic paintings. Many 19th century American Impressionist painters were active in New England area and this museum holds a large collection. I was extremely excited to see works by my favorite artists, Childe Hassam, Robert Vonnoh, John Twachtman, and John Sargent.
There were many paintings I'd never seen before.

John Singer Sargent's Mural
Boston Public Library houses a magnificent Sargent's mural called "Triumph of Religion."
It is free and open for everyone to visit. What a treat!

Exploring Boston
Boston Common is a large park in downtown Boston. Many people were out enjoying a beautiful Sunday in a beautiful park.
Back Bay District
Streets of Back Bay are lined with shops and restaurants. Many shops are chain stores that you find in any malls, but there also are many interesting shops like Boston Olive Oil Company, where you can sample wonderfully flavored olive oils and balsamic vinegars.

Driving to Boston
From Atlanta to Boston was 19+ hours drive.
My husband and I took turns driving. During my break, I sketched things around me with watercolor.
Driving through Virginia on I-81 was especially beautiful. It was a view of green hills, forests in autumn colors, and gentle mountains. We drove through the area at sunset time, and everything was bathed in glowing orange.
