"Waiting for a Lobstah" oil painting of a New England lobster shack

I liked the composition and the subject of the small painting I did in August, so painted it again in a larger size.  This subject had many different light sources so it was both challenging and enjoyable to paint.

Many lobster shacks are closed for the season, but Woodman's depicted here stays open year round.

Limited Palette Exercise

I challenged myself to paint a landscape with earth primary palette this time.

I allowed myself only 3 colors plus white.

Yellow Ochre
Burnt Sienna
Ivory Black
Titanium White

It was quite difficult to paint with such a drastically different palette, but it was an excellent practice to see how color and values relate to each other.

A Small Painting of Prague

I miss Prague now a days.
It'd be so nice if I could set up my easel and paint on location there.  I take tons of photos everytime I go there, but painting from photos is not quite as exciting as painting en plein aire.

Olde Town Conyers Paint Out - Sencond Place

Yesterday, I participated in the 1st Annual Olde Town Paint Out in Conyers, GA.

What a beautiful day to paint outside!
Regional artists painted around the charming city.

Reception and award ceremony was at Olde Town Gallery & Studio

One of my paintings received a 2nd place award!!

"Jakubska Street, Sunset"

This is a painting done from my memory.  I remember people walking towards sunset, rimmed with golden light.  The smooth surface of aged cobble stone pavement reflected light beautifully.

In Prague, something magical happens to sunlight.
